CSAT, NPS, and the timing of your question
CSAT asks about satisfaction with a particular experience. NPS asks about likelihood to recommend. They answer different questions: a customer can like a support interaction and still be unlikely to recommend the overall product.
Send a short CSAT survey while the experience is fresh: after a support case, purchase, onboarding milestone, or service appointment. Add an optional reason question so the rating has context.
- Choose a five- or seven-point scale and keep its labels stable.
- Use the same satisfaction threshold each time; this calculator counts ratings above neutral.
- Look for recurring problems in low scores and measure again after making a change.
